El Chilenito is a slice of Chile in Berlin, founded by Lalo Estrada, a Chilean-German chef passionate about sharing the flavors of his homeland. Growing up in a household where Chilean cuisine was a staple, Lalo developed a love for cooking that led him to study and train at the prestigious Hotel am Los Angeles Platz, specializing in restaurant and hotel management.
In 2014, Lalo pursued his passion by launching his first Chilean food truck in Berlin. To save costs, he outfitted the truck himself in just one month, allowing him to start his business quickly. Driven by his love for Chilean food and the desire to share these authentic flavors, Lalo took his truck to local markets and street festivals in various Berlin neighborhoods, including Kreuzberg and Schöneberg, and participated in major events like the Karneval der Kulturen.
El Chilenito’s menu stands out for its authenticity and variety, offering dishes such as empanadas filled with beef, olives, raisins, eggs, and onions, along with vegetarian and vegan options. Among the specialties are the famous Chilean sandwiches, like the Churrasco Casero with tender sirloin steak, avocado, tomato, and bell peppers. Other classics include the Completo, a Chilean-style hot dog, and the Churrasco Italiano with avocado, tomato, and mayonnaise.
Located at Bergmannstr. 102 in the vibrant Kreuzberg district, El Chilenito has become a gathering spot for curious Berliners and Chileans living in Germany who are looking to reconnect with the tastes of home. After more than five years and overcoming challenges like the pandemic, Lalo continues to cook with passion, bringing the best of Chilean street food to the heart of Berlin.
